Cochlear Implant Activation Day

Your hearing healthcare professionals would have already discussed with you what to expect on the day of activation, and the multiple appointments in the months following to get you up and running with your CI.

Milestones on Your Hearing Journey


Wow, you are almost at the end of your journey to get a cochlear implant, but this is not the end of your hearing journey! This is where all the fun starts!

  1. High powered hearing aids are no longer providing you adequate benefit

  2. Your hearing healthcare professional identifies you as a potential candidate and the referral process for cochlear implant (CI) assessment commences

  3. If you choose so, you will receive contact from someone with a CI, to help answer your questions

  4. Initial appointment scheduled at CI centre

  5. If you choose to proceed, next will be a follow-up appointment at CI centre 

  6. Appointment with Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) surgeon*

  7. Scheduling of surgery

  8. Final pre-operative appointment

  9. Surgery day

  10. CI activation day

* In some cases, an appointment with the ENT occurs prior to meeting with the CI centre.
