Final Pre-Operative Appointment

Soon you will need to decide on the brand and accessories of your cochlear implant, if you have not already. You would have discussed multiple factors with your hearing healthcare professionals and it is important that you take the time to consider what is right for you.

Milestones on Your Hearing Journey

There are 10 key steps in your hearing journey to improving your hearing and quality of life with a cochlear implant. Here is where you are in your hearing journey now:

  1. High powered hearing aids are no longer providing you adequate benefit

  2. Your hearing healthcare professional identifies you as a potential candidate and the referral process for cochlear implant (CI) assessment commences

  3. If you choose so, you will receive contact from someone with a CI, to help answer your questions

  4. Initial appointment scheduled at CI centre

  5. If you choose to proceed, next will be a follow-up appointment at CI centre 

  6. Appointment with Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) surgeon*

  7. Scheduling of surgery

  8. Final pre-operative appointment

  9. Surgery day

  10. CI activation day

* In some cases, an appointment with the ENT occurs prior to meeting with the CI centre.
